Zurich Climate Prize 2013

2nd place for the Solécole cooperative, Küsnacht

Sunny school: «Solécole»

Pupils and teacher at the Küsnacht cantonal school founded the Solécole cooperative in 2007. It aims to promote environmentally-friendly, renewable energies and erect and operate its own solar power plant on the roof of the school. And it succeeded in doing so: Solécole has been generating part of its electricity requirements since 2009. By 2020, the cooperative aims to at least cover the cantonal school’s electricity requirements. Pupils and teachers alike are informed about climate change with the aid of environmental awareness campaigns.
