Switch to rail: «Daily unaccompanied multimodal transportation of goods»
Coop is increasingly switching from road to rail carriage. The concept of unaccompanied multimodal transportation enables the carriage of goods using a combination of rail and road. Here exchangeable containers are carried by truck from a Coop distribution center to the nearest railport where they are transferred by crane onto railCare goods trains. This is already the usual procedure for distances in excess of 300 km. Coop and railCare now also enable this system for shorter distances. In contrast to the carriage of goods by road, the transport of goods by rail produces less particulate emissions. Coop is thus easing the burden on both the roads and the environment.
